Задание 10

Read the text and choose the correct options. Leafcutter ants: Nature's farmers Leafcutter ants are amazing insects known for their special behaviour of cutting and carrying pieces of leaves to their homes underground. Unlike many other ants, these busy ants do not eat the leaves right away. Instead, they use the leaves to grow a type of fungus (плесень), which is their main food. This relationship between leafcutter ants and the fungus they grow is a great example of how different species can help each other survive. These hardworking ants can travel far, sometimes up to 200 meters away from their nests, to find the best leaves. This skill helps them get many different kinds of plants, which are important for their fungi to grow. Once they have the leaves, they bring them back home and chop them into smaller pieces. The ants put the chopped leaves in their nests so the fungus can grow well. This process shows how dedicated leafcutter ants are and highlights their important role in nature. They help keep the environment healthy by spreading nutrients and supporting many different types of plants and animals. 1 What is the main purpose of leafcutter ants collecting leaves? a to eat the leaves immediately b to build their nests c to grow fungus for food d to protect themselves from predators 2 What makes leafcutter ants different from many other ant species? a They work together in groups. b They can carry heavy objects. c They live underground. d They don't eat leaves directly. 3 What helps leafcutter ants get different types of plants? a their strong jaws b their navigation skills c their large colony size d their sense of smell 4 What do the ants do with the leaves after collecting them? a Chop them into smaller pieces. b Feed them directly to their young. c Store them whole in their nests. d Leave them outside the nest.
