Mikhail Lomonosov, a famous Russian scientist, was born in 1711, in a small village called Denisovka, Arkhangelsk Gubernia, in the poor family of a fisherman. From a young age, Lomonosov had a strong hunger for knowledge. As soon as he learned to read, he devoured every book he could find in his village. When he was 17, he left his hometown and set off on a journey to Moscow. There, he got into the prestigious Slavic-Greek-Latin Academy, which was the only college in the city at that time. Even though he faced tough working conditions and financial struggles, Lomonosov never gave up. His exceptional abilities and dedication helped him finish the Academy's seven-year program in just four years. In 1741, Lomonosov became a Professor of Chemistry and a respected member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Lomonosov was a man of unusual abilities. He made great achievements in the spheres of physics, chemistry, astronomy, geology, geography, linguistics, and history. Among the numerous discoveries of Lomonosov was the Law of the Conservation of Mass (закон сохранения массы). Mikhail Lomonosov, a well-known figure in the 18th century, dedicated his life to advancing Russian science. Although he considered chemistry his main field, he was also Russia's first physicist. His relentless efforts led to the foundation of Moscow University in 1755, which quickly became a major center for enlightenment and scientific exploration in Russia. Sadly, Lomonosov passed away at the age of 54 in 1765. Mikhail Lomonosov's enduring legacy continues to inspire young scientists in Russia and around the world to this day. 1.
